Dr. Paul Sobey
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Sobey is a full-time addiction medicine physician. He completed his fellowship training in Addiction Medicine at the University Hospitals of Cleveland and Case Western Reserve University in 1999. His expertise lies in comprehensive family practice (CFPC Certified).
He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University, a Clinical Instructor with the UBC Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Practice and a former President of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine.
In 2019, he achieved a Certificate of Added Competence in Addiction Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Dr. Sobey was certified in 2010 by the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine and the American Board of Addiction Medicine. His professional expertise extends across community engagement, institutional leadership, administration, education, hospital settings, and medical-legal matters. His focus over the past decade has revolved around the evaluation and care of employees dealing with intricate substance-related concerns, particularly in the workplace context. A cornerstone of his methodology is his own enduring journey through recovery profoundly influencing his perspective on recovery medicine.
In December 2022, Dr. Paul Sobey and two colleagues founded ROSC Solutions Group and successfully secured several healthcare contracts from the Government of Alberta. These contracts have been centered around reinforcing Alberta’s Recovery Oriented Systems of Care framework, with a primary emphasis on addressing addiction and mental health challenges with the bulk of his efforts oriented towards the province of Alberta.
